John wrote this at Norwescon 29 in our hotel room, an hour before the concert we were supposed to sing it at. Ahh, deadlines, so motivational. Lois McMaster Bujold was in the audience when he debuted it. I saw her snort when he got to the Betan switch line, it was beautiful.
