Written in Blood
Words & Music by Brooke Lunderville, 2006.
I wrote this in 2006 after hearing part of it in a dream, how hokey, and it has hidden in the back of my filkbook ever since. I deleted it from the index at one point so no one would make me sing it, because it felt so personal and intense. Then Cindy Turner wrote a gorgeous McShep song, "Don't Ask Don't Tell" and I realized that this one had a new life coming as a mooshy, slashy response to it. Sometimes songs take on a life that you don't expect.

I never thought I'd see you blush
You were the river that would never flood
But now your secret's out, it's on your face
Written in blood, written in blood

I was supposed to never know
I understand, I've always understood
The question isn't do I feel the same
It's whether I should, whether I should

How did the talking get so straight
It was supposed to stay one big joke
Cover up your burning heart
With a blanket of smoke, a blanket of smoke

I never thought I'd see you blush
You were the river that would never flood
But now your secret's out, it's on your face
Written in blood, written in blood
